SWS Teaser

IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD, A COMMUNITY TO MAKE A FILM

Perennially dismissed by the media, Asian men are instead reduced to mockery and stereotypes — tiny penis, socially awkward, physically undesirable. We’re rarely given space to speak about our struggles. As a result, the sting of racial rejections —“No Asians,” “Chinks need not apply”— still echo in the LGBTQ+ dating world. This is the consequence of erasure: of media that refuses to see us and a culture that renders us invisible. The surge in anti-Asian hate during the COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t spontaneous—it was the culmination of decades of silence and exclusion. SummerWinterSummer aims to break that silence, immersing viewers in the intimate journey of Duy, a young man whose pain and longing mirror the realities of so many who feel unseen.

We are proud to be fiscally sponsored by Film Independent, which makes all contributions 100% tax-deductible. We’ve also been honored with the $25,000 SFFILM Rainin Grant, a testament to the film’s artistic and social impact. We are now seeking to raise $300,000 to bring this story to screen.

Every donation—no matter the amount—brings us closer to representing a truth rarely seen in American cinema. Your support affirms the worth of countless gay Asian men who deserve to be seen in all our complexity.
